What is AUTO.AE

Introduction

AUTO.AE is a dedicated car trading platform designed for the UAE and neighboring GCC countries. It brings together vehicle buyers, sellers, and renters under one roof — accessible through both a website and mobile apps. Currently the platform features more than 20,000 live vehicle ads.

AUTO.AE works on a peer-to-peer model. The service helps buyers and sellers find each other, but stays out of the deal itself. No commissions or service charges apply to finalized transactions. Buyers and sellers interact directly through in-app messaging, phone, or WhatsApp.

Core Terminology

TermMeaning
MarketplaceA digital space that pairs buyers with sellers. AUTO.AE is the venue — not the dealer.
ShowroomA licensed car dealership that has a physical office and a trade permit.
Direct ConnectionBuyers reach sellers straight through Chat or Call — no intermediary fees involved.

What You Will Learn Here

This introductory article walks you through how AUTO.AE is organized:

  • The six primary sections accessible from the top menu bar.
  • How the front page is laid out and what each element does.
  • Shortcut cards that help you jump to niche vehicle categories (Fast, Electric, Family, Off-road).
  • Account-related tools in the top bar (Comparisons, Favorites, Messages, My Ads).
  • Options for switching language and currency display.

Six Main Sections

The top menu bar gives you instant access to the six pillars of the platform. These links stay visible no matter which page you are browsing.

1. Buy a Car

This is the core vehicle purchase section. It holds ads from individual owners and professional dealerships alike. You can narrow results by Make, Model, Body Type, Year, Price, and whether the car is New or Used.

2. Rent a Car

A separate area reserved exclusively for rental offers. Only licensed rental businesses and showrooms may post here — private owners cannot. Rates appear per day, though you can negotiate longer-term deals by contacting the provider.

3. Buy a License Plate

A marketplace specific to the UAE's registration plate trade (often called "VIP plates" or "fancy numbers"). Browse plates from various emirates sorted by emirate code (Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, etc.) and digit count.

4. Showrooms

A dealer directory that groups every registered dealership on the platform. Each listing includes the showroom's full stock, street address shown on a map, phone numbers, business hours, and buyer reviews.

5. Catalog

A pure research tool for comparing car specifications. The Catalog contains no vehicles for sale. Instead, it stores technical data about makes, models, generations, and trims. Side-by-side comparisons let you study differences before heading to the marketplace.

6. Blog

The editorial section with automotive news, market insights, purchase guides, and platform updates. Content is available in English and Arabic.

Front Page Layout

The homepage serves as the main entry point for every user journey. Below is a breakdown of each section.

Top Bar

At the very top you will find:

  • AUTO.AE logo: Click to return to the front page from anywhere on the site.
  • Search bar: A global search field for locating specific cars or dealerships.
  • Comparisons: View your saved side-by-side vehicle comparisons (login required).
  • Favorites: Open your bookmarked ads (login required).
  • Messages: Read and send in-app messages to sellers (login required).
  • My Ads: Track and edit your own listings if you are a seller (login required).
  • Language and Currency: Switch between English (EN) and Arabic (AR). You can also pick a different display currency (USD, EUR, etc.).
  • Sell my car: A red call-to-action button that launches the listing wizard.

Hero Banner

Right below the menu, the front page shows the tagline "Good cars are sold here" alongside the total number of live offers in the UAE. This counter refreshes automatically as new ads appear.

Main Action Tabs

Three large tabs let you switch rapidly between the key verticals:

  1. Buy a Car — Opens the used/new vehicle marketplace.
  2. Rent a Car — Opens the rental catalogue.
  3. License plate — Opens the VIP plates section.

Brand Logo Grid

A visual grid highlights popular manufacturers with their logos and live ad counts. For instance:

  • Toyota — 5,080 ads
  • Mercedes-Benz — 2,905 ads
  • Nissan — 1,433 ads
  • Land Rover — 904 ads
  • Lexus — 770 ads
  • BMW — 734 ads

Tap any logo to instantly filter the marketplace to that brand.

Make and Body Dropdowns

Two dropdown buttons let you refine results by:

  • Make: Choose a manufacturer from the full alphabetical list.
  • Body: Pick a body style (Sedan, SUV, Hatchback, Coupe, Pickup, Van, etc.).

New / Used Toggle

A three-way switch near the top right of the filter area lets you choose:

  • All — Displays both new and pre-owned cars.
  • New — Limits results to brand-new vehicles from authorized dealers.
  • Used — Limits results to pre-owned vehicles only.

Car Finance Switch

At the bottom left of the filter block, a Car Finance toggle restricts results to ads that include financing options. Turning this on shows only showrooms and dealers with in-house or bank-backed payment plans.

Show Offers Button

A large red button reading "Show 20,862 offers" (the number adjusts based on active filters) applies your selections and takes you to the search results page.

Shortcut Category Cards

On the right-hand side of the front page, four visual cards give one-tap access to specialized vehicle groups:

CardCriteriaWhat it shows
Fast0–100 km/h under 7 secondsSports and performance vehicles.
ElectricElectric powertrainBattery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrids.
Family5+ seats, 500+ liters of trunk spacePractical options like SUVs, minivans, and crossovers.
Off-road20+ cm ground clearance, 4WDDesert-ready and rough-terrain vehicles.

Clicking a card applies the matching technical filters and sends you straight to the results.

Account Tools in the Top Bar

Several features in the header are tied to your personal account. You need to be signed up and logged in to use them.

Comparisons

Collect as many vehicles as you like for a detailed side-by-side view. The comparison table shows engine, gearbox, price, and mileage data in columns for easy review.

Favorites

Bookmark any ad you plan to revisit. Your bookmarks sync across devices — a car you save on your phone will appear in your web favorites too.

Messages

The built-in chat system. All written contact with sellers (aside from calls and WhatsApp) goes through this channel. Message history is kept indefinitely so you can always look back.

My Ads

If you list a vehicle, plate, or rental offer, this panel shows each ad's status (Active, Under Moderation, Rejected, Expired). From here you can revise, pause, or remove your ads.

Helpful Tips

  • Language: Full Arabic localization is available. Use the "EN/AR" switch in the top bar to toggle it.
  • Currency: AED is the default, but you can switch the display currency using the header selector whenever you need a quick conversion.
  • Ad Counts: The number beside each brand (e.g., "Toyota — 5,080") reflects live ads only. Sold or expired listings are excluded.
  • Why Register: You can browse freely without an account, but saving favorites, running comparisons, and reaching out to sellers all require a free sign-up.

Pitfalls to Avoid

  • Wrong section: Rental vehicles do not appear under "Buy a Car" and the other way around. Double-check which tab is active before searching.
  • Catalog ≠ Marketplace: The Catalog holds technical specs only — it does not list cars for sale. Use "Buy a Car" when you want to make a purchase.
  • Overlooking the Finance toggle: If you need a payment plan, turn on "Car Finance" before running your search. Otherwise you might contact sellers who accept cash only.

Now that you know how the platform is structured, find out how the peer-to-peer model works and what to expect when you reach out to a seller.
