Drivetrain Types
Introduction
The "Drive Type" tag in the Catalog tells you which wheels power the car. This is critical for performance and off-road capability.
Core Terminology
| Term | Meaning |
| FWD | Front-Wheel Drive — the engine pulls the car. Efficient on normal roads. |
| AWD | All-Wheel Drive — computer-controlled power to all wheels. Good for rain, not for deep sand. |
| Low Range (4L) | A mechanical gear found only in true 4WD vehicles — essential for sand dunes and serious off-road. |
Drive Systems
- FWD (Front-Wheel Drive): The engine pulls the car. Efficient and safe for everyday roads.
- Found in: Camry, Corolla, Sunny.
- RWD (Rear-Wheel Drive): The engine pushes the car. Better balance and sportier feel.
- Found in: BMW 3 Series, Mustang, older luxury sedans.
- AWD / 4WD: Power reaches all four wheels.
AWD vs. 4WD (The Desert Rule)
The Catalog distinguishes these clearly in the "Drive Type" tag.
| Type | Mechanism | Sand Capability |
| AWD (All-Wheel Drive) | Computer controls power. No Low Gear. | ❌ Low. Fine for beach sand, bad for dunes. |
| 4WD / 4×4 (Four-Wheel Drive) | Mechanical Low Range (4L) gear. | ✅ High. Essential for Big Red or Liwa dunes. |
Rule: If the Specs do not mention "4WD" or "Low Gear," think twice before entering deep sand.
